Feature complete and new trailer!
Drone Control is now feature complete and there is a proper trailer highlighting what the game is all about!
Since the last post a lot has changed. The weapons and enemy types have undergone significant changes. Your ship has now 4 weapons, 3 of them require ammo. Ammo is regained by defeating enemies, hitting them with a dash or by using the 4th weapon - heatseeking missiles.
The ammo system in particular is way more engaging than the cooldowns we had before. By letting ammo be regained primarily via kills it incentivizes getting into the action, so the player is always pushed towards the enemy.
The 3 enemy types have also different behaviors and priorities. The harbinger prioritizes turrets (if in a certain range), then the player and only then they attack drones. The Raven on the other hand focuses on the player with his heatseeking missiles, so the player has to deal with them or die from the constant chipping damage. The final enemy type, the Cyclops, ignores the player and bombards turrets and drones from afar. Leaving them unchecked will lead to loss of economy.
The tutorials have also seen a major restructuring. There are now 4 and a lot of things have been streamlined and are better paced.
There are 6 missions right now, each with their own challenges and economy size. Now that everything is feature complete it is very easy to add more missions if the demand arises!
The new trailer was a lot of work - I learned new Unity features (Timeline and Cinemachine) and new tools (OBS for screen capture and Davincy Resolve for video editing). It was a lot of fun creating a video that way, but also quite a challenge ;)
Have fun! Tell me what you think about the game and the trailer :)
