Weapons rework
Hi!
Upon receiving feedback I realized that a rework of the weapon was in order. When the plan was to make a multiplayer game every ship type had the same standard weapons, that fire rather slow, travel rather slow and deal medium damage. Every ship type also had unique special weapons, making each ship type interesting in its own way. The standard weapons were included for balancing reasons: special weapons require energy, and when energy is low, you still can defend yourself in a reasonable way.
The standard weapons were perceived as boring while the gatling gun (the special weapon of the playable ship in the current first mission) was perceived as fun. It would have been ok in a multiplayer game to have a rather boring weapon for balancing reasons I guess, but not in a singleplayer game! I want players to feel powerful, a boring weapon makes no sense here.
So I decided to rework the whole concept and ended up with switching the gatling as the standard weapon (left mouse button) and adding heatseeking missiles with a lockon-functionality. When I was designing it as a multiplayer game I absolutely did not want heatseeking missiles - I personally hate them in multiplayer shooters like Battlefield. The whole counter-measures game play stuff is only annoying in my opinion. But in a singleplayer game I don't have to give the AI them ;) Using them should be fun, and by not having to react to them as a player this should be fine.
In this update I also improved the ingame GUI a lot with a better color palette.
The main menu is still ugly, one thing at a time ;)
